Judiciary and Open Government Partnership promote open and transparent justice

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Justice, Henry Molina, and the magistrate of that high court, Samuel Arias Arzeno, met this Thursday with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), Sanjay Pradhan, and with the General Director of Ethics and Government Integrity, Milagros Ortiz Bosch.

This meeting is part of the actions undertaken by the Judiciary of the Dominican Republic to promote transparency, accountability, and citizen participation.

The Judiciary will develop an Open Justice Plan focused on making the judicial service more accessible and transparent, an initiative that will be supported by the OGP and the International Open Justice Network, which will provide assistance in the co-creation, drafting, and monitoring of the plan's commitments, which will impact the achievement of a more people-centered, close, accessible, and transparent justice system.

With the implementation of this initiative, which has been the result of joint work over the past five years with the General Directorate of Ethics and Government Integrity (DIGEIG), within the framework of the National Open Government Plans, the Dominican Judiciary continues its transformative progress and will become one of the first judiciaries worldwide to join the Open Government Partnership.

During the meeting, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ), Henry Molina, highlighted the ongoing commitment of this branch of the State to guarantee a people-centered, timely, efficient, and open justice system that promotes social participation, as part of the judicial system's transformation process.

For his part, Sanjay Pradhan, CEO of the Open Government Partnership, highlighted the work already underway in this branch of government, and welcomed the Judiciary of the Dominican Republic to the Open Government Partnership. He also invited them to use the ten-year planning process to undertake deep and ambitious people-centered justice policies.

Collaboration with the OGP accentuates these efforts, aligning the Dominican Republic with the highest international standards in justice and governance. Likewise, the Judiciary is joining the commitments of the 6th National Open Government Plan. During the month of September of this year, it participated, in coordination with DIGEIG, in the provincial consultation tables for the drafting of said plan.

With initiatives like this, the Judiciary of the Dominican Republic is moving toward a more transparent and accessible justice system, fostering the active participation of all individuals in a continuous effort to guarantee their dignity and improve judicial accessibility.

During the meeting, progress was highlighted in three key strategic pillars of the Dominican judicial system: 0% Mora, 100% Access, and 100% Transparency, and this initiative is directly linked to the strategic focus of the Dominican Judiciary’s Institutional Plan—100% Transparency—for a trustworthy justice system.
