
The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader Corona, enacted the Law on the Use of Digital Media in the Judiciary. This law marks a milestone in the judicial history of the Dominican Republic for being the first time that the Supreme Court of Justice makes use of its legislative initiative provided for in the Constitution of the Republic.
La The law establishes the principles and guidelines that allow the use of digital media in the Judiciary, without affecting current procedural rules. It's a Significant progress for the country and the legal community, since it will increase access and transparency, the main pillar of reliable justice.
With its implementation, users of the justice service will be able to view and monitor their files and se will facilitate access to justice by allowing requests, deposits, consultations through the internet, from anywhere in the country. Now the lawyers and citizens will have the option of attending their hearings virtually, in all matters except criminal. In addition, it enables the use of the digital signature for judges, judges and judicial servers, the creation and access to the parties to the electronic judicial file and other facilities and advantages that the judicial transformation makes possible.
The Law on the Use of Digital Media in the Judiciary was prepared by the Legislative Agenda Commission of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of Justice, which was made up of judges Justiniano Montero, Francisco Antonio Jerez, Manuel Alexis Read, Rafael Vásquez Goico, Napoleón Estévez Lavandier, Nancy Idelsa Salcedo Fernández, Vanessa Acosta Peralta and its president, Luis Henry Molina Peña. With its promulgation, the Supreme Court of Justice must now prepare and approve the regulations for its application, within a period of no more than six months.
With this new law, Dominican society will have the conditions for a service of up-to-date justice, capable of guaranteeing the dignity of people and offer an optimal response.
